Eye Exercises to Reduce Strain and Improve Eye Health

While there is no cure for eye strain, there are a number of exercises that can help to reduce the symptoms and improve eye health. Here are a few simple exercises that you can try:

1. Blinking

One of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce eye strain is to blink regularly. When we are focused on a screen or other object for a long period of time, our blink rate tends to decrease. This can lead to dry eyes and other symptoms of eye strain.

To make sure you are blinking enough, try to blink consciously every 20 seconds or so. You can also use a timer to remind yourself to blink regularly.

2. Palming

Palming is a yogic technique that can help to relax the eye muscles and reduce eye strain. To do palming, simply rub your hands together to warm them up and then place your palms over your closed eyes. Cup your hands slightly so that no light gets in.

Breathe deeply and relax your eyes for 30-60 seconds. Once you are finished, remove your hands slowly and open your eyes.

3. Eye rolling

Eye rolling is another simple exercise that can help to reduce eye strain. To do eye rolling, simply close your eyes and roll them in a circular motion. Roll your eyes in one direction for 10 seconds, then roll them in the other direction for 10 seconds.

Repeat this exercise 3-5 times.

4. Focusing near and far

This exercise helps to strengthen the eye muscles and improve flexibility. To do this exercise, simply focus on an object that is close to you for 10 seconds, then focus on an object that is far away for 10 seconds.

Repeat this exercise 3-5 times.

5. The 20-20-20 rule

If you spend a lot of time looking at a screen, it is important to follow the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look away from your screen and focus on an object that is at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.

This will help to reduce eye strain and prevent other eye problems.

You can do these exercises at any time of day, but it is especially important to do them if you spend a lot of time looking at a screen. You can also do these exercises if you are experiencing any symptoms of eye strain.

If you have any concerns about your eye health, be sure to see an eye doctor for regular checkups.
